3 nights in Goteborg! When we were planning Sweden, we asked around for opinions about Stockholm vs Goteborg, and everyone with any experience had a strong opinion. Some people swore Stockholm was the cooler city, and several people swore that Stockholm was over-rated and that Goteborg was where it's at...
It's unual for us to even want to be "big cities" ... we tend to avoid cities and spend time away from concrete. We don't bother with nightlife or foodie stuff. But the "big cities" in Scandanavia have been lovely so far and a great way to be tourists.
We stayed in "Goteborgs mini hotel" in the Masthuggets district, and it was awesome. It had hot showers, a sweet kitchen, laundry access, and a breakfast room that has served well as a place to work remotely.
Highlights of our activities Goteborg, Sweden's second biggest city:
1) Eating some lunch specials out at restaurants, and then cooking dinner at our hostel kitchen.
2) Slottsskogen, a large and beautiful park with animals like penguins
3) Oscar Fredriks Church, right near our hostel
4) The cultural museum
This free museum was entertaining. There was a special exhibit on Mexico, but it also had displays that compared perspectives in Mecca, China, and the Congo. There was a cool exhibit called "Together" which had many children's activities to show clothing, shoes, hats, beds, and music in different parts of the world.

The bed exhibit was a win for any parent - you get to lie down in several different kinds of bed and try them out! |
|
Hats from all over the world |
|
Our kids hanging out at the "cozy corner" |
|
Catching the tram |
5) Meggan completing a 14 mile (23km) run around the city as part of marathon training. Other walks around town, Jason running some, and M and R doing a short run together
|
Statue of Poseidon, the greek god who we like reading about |
|
A little IKEA design shop in Sweden |
6) Walking around the Haga neighbourhood and enjoying a famously large and delicious cinnamon bun
|
"Cosy shopping and Fika" means cute cafes and shopping |
|
The Sandra Boynton hippo ("alone once more, missing the other 44")
|
7) Liseberg, the amusement park.
I'm going to write a separate post about our Liseberg experience.
And after 3 nights, some clean laundry, and less fatigue, we woke up and boarded the board for Denmark. Thanks for a fun time, Sweden!
