While planning this trip, we decided to have some fun as a family. Jason and Ava planned out the Denmark portion of our trip, and Rachel and I planned out the Sweden portion of our trip. So Ava and Jason didn't know what we were doing in Sweden until just before we arrived.
We didn't have a lot of time in Stockholm, although we were thrilled to arrive to beautiful sunshine and warmth. We decided to try a "hop on/hop off" bus as a way to see the city without as much walking. Some of our littler legs were getting a bit fatigued from walking so much to explore. It was harder to take photos from inside the glass of the city bus, but it was a good way to take in the overall sights.

We then had an unexpected surprise. Stockholm's Cultural Festival was happening, and it was awesome! On Jason's bucket list is "Attend a major cultural festival in at least 3 different countries." There were different stages with music and dancing, food tents everywhere, and activities here and there. He was able to check out a bit of it before going to work, and then the kids and I stayed behind at the children's area for a bit.
There was a stage of kids music, a circus/acrobatics show, a robot area to build a robot, a hammer-and-nail section to help build a giant wooden octopus, arts and crafts, sumo wrestling... it was really cool.

We then left for 3 days/2 nights of kayaking (more on that to come) and then returned for one more night of Stockholm and the cultural festival. This time Jason didn't have to work, so we could enjoy the food tents and people watch and check out some music together.
We stayed in Stockholm's "Old Town" in a hostel/hotel called the "Castle House Inn" which was great. We had a family room of 4 beds, a shared bathroom/shower down the hall, and it was LGBTQ+ friendly / welcoming and relatively affordable. Easy to walk to and from the major activity areas, and near cobblestone cool streets and the Royal Palace.
Stockholm is a cool city and we enjoyed it. It felt safe, clean and easy to explore.
