The Lego House in Billund, Denmark

Did you know that Lego comes from Denmark?

In Billund, Denmark, there is a Legoland Amusement Park that includes many different theme park attractions. Much like DisneyWorld, there are several different areas to choose from: a water park, LegoLand rides, another area called WOW, and Lego House.

Lego House is an interactive building with loads of Lego displays and opportunities to build, create and be inspired.

We took a train from Aarhus and then a bus to get to Billund, and arrived in the morning. There are plenty of fun accommodation options, but we camped in our tent in the Lego Holiday Village. We arrived at about 9am but we were able to check in and go set up our tent (not designated sites, just a field area). We left our luggage and tent and walked over to the Lego House.

Girls made a Lego-based stop motion movie

We made Mini-figures

We each created a character with a particular mood, and then we were able to see our characters get animated and dance liek

We have that yellow castle at home!

We created fish, and then they uploaded to an animation screen
and swam around. Ava is pointing to hers.

R's striped blue fish is high up above her.

Jason and Ava, who had planned all of Denmark, had a special treat in store for us. We had lunch at "Mini Chef"... you order your food on screen from a Lego mini figure animation, and then two robots named Robert and Roberta deliver your food. It comes down on a conveyor belt in a Lego shaped lunch box. Our four lunch boxes were blue. The food was nutritious and yummy!

The kids' lunches each came with a mini chef minifigure!

Our own family. Guess who is who?

This was a cooperative robot exhibit. We each had a Lego robot and as a group, we had to plant animated flowers in order to save a bee hive. It was really fun!

There's an amazing store where you can buy a lot of really cool Lego. We ended up buying 3 minifigures and had fun choosing all their parts and accessories.

We got to the Lego House right when it opened at 10am, and we left the exhibits at closing at 4pm. We had lots of fun creating Lego builds here and there all day. After the gift shop, we saw one more computerized poster. You put your palm on the controller and then it spit out the Lego creation it "thought" you should be. Check out what each of us ended up being!

Ava the clown

Rachel the boat captain. Rachel LOVES boats and actually JUST one moment before this had finished creating a similar boat captain mini figure as her purchase item.

And Jason is partying with a huge cake

We walked back to our campground and spent the night in our tent. The weather was lovely the whole time with no rain! Before bed, the girls played on the campground playgrounds while Jason and I worked. Cute little duck families and birds came in and out of our campsite.
One word of caution if you ever plan to camp here - the Billund airport is right next door and they have loud planes that fly in and out from 4:30am-11:59pm. It wasn't quiet!
We didn't mind and slept fine despite this. But some others may choose instead to sleep in the cute cabins or themed barrel-houses, or in the Castle Hotel or the Lego Hotel - some pretty cool places to hang out and do amusement parks if you have a healthy budget!!

The entrance to the actual LegoLand rides area, which we didn't do

In the morning, we had a bus to catch so we got up and left our campsite to find breakfast at the grocery store. When we came back, we saw that the ducks had marched right through our tent from one side to the other!! There was duck poop on one of our thermarests! Oops. It was totally my fault - I left the tent unzipped in my hurry to find breakfast while still packing up. I've never had a duck in my tent before!!

In summary, hanging out in the LegoLand area was AWESOME, and we really enjoyed our time at the Lego House.
