Goals for a fun life

Seems pretty trendy to write and publish a 'bucket list' or 'life list' or '10 things to do in the next 10 years' or '40 things to do before I'm 40' kind of list... so I'm going to jump on the bandwagon and make my own list.  Thanks to some other friends who have already done this for their ideas!

Jason also made a list independently - both are below.  I know we are a wee bit ambitious, but, hey that's us.  We figured any that are the same become top priorities in our life.

Jason's list:

learn to surf (week surfing camp)
summit all of Colorado's 14ers
finish Hardrock both directions (that's a really hard 100 mile race)
learn to play guitar
become comfortable using Spanish to communicate
skydive
visit all us states
visit all canadian provinces
visit all 7 continents
whitewater kayak
become a regular yoga attendee (min 1/week)
bike the east coast from newfoundland down to DC
animal safari in africa
read my grandfather's book, Spacelab
watch my girls graduate
cruise a blue ski run with all four of us
own a family hostel travel business
live in a small mountain town
bungee jump
sit in a hot spring in iceland
see norway's fjords
give an exhorbitant tip ($100) to someone who gives outstanding service for a small task
travel to one new country each year
live in a residence that is off the grid (solar/geothermal/wind)
read at least a book a week for a year
attend glastonbury music festival in england
camp a night on a 14er summit
visit a polar bear camp in manitoba or norway
plan a weekend getaway (that involves flying) less than 48 hours in advance
attend the Winter Olympics (i'd love to attend summer again, too)
attend the US track and field trials
see the great pyramids
attend a running and yoga retreat
visit Bhutan
get a job or volunteer with a group that inspires youth to get outside
see the northern lights
visit the Taj Mahal
visit a major cultural festival in at least 3 different countries

Meggan's list:
- Complete a half ironman (planned for 2014)
- Ride a tram in San Francisco.  (Really, I want to explore SF properly because I've been to the area but never really seen it.  If I were to ride a tram, I'd be doing a really touristy thing in SF and probably have time to explore the city properly.)
- Donate blood.  I've never met the 'rules' before... but I think soon I will.
- Go skinny dipping under a full moon.
- Complete 20 good quality 'real' push-ups.
- See the Matterhorn.
- See Chamonix.  Preferably hike or ski on it.
- Complete the Pikes Peak Ascent Half Marathon.
- Complete a half marathon in less than 2 hours.
- Watch a Shakespeare play performance in England, making it as authentic as possible
- Do a hut-to-hut ski traverse
- Hike in Patagonia
- Go to Petra, Jordan
- Summit Mt. Kilimanjaro
- See a giraffe and an elephant in the wild
- Attend a formal tea ceremony in Japan
- Multiday tramping trip on New Zealand's South Island
- Complete all sections of the Colorado Trail, whether on bike or running or hiking, in as many different adventures as it takes to do the whole thing.
- See Igazu Falls (Brazil/Argentina)
- See Angel Falls, Venezuela
- Go to all 50 states
- Go to all provinces (by this I actually mean just the provinces)
- Do an adventure race that includes an overnight section, likely a 24 hour race or longer.
- Swim from point A to point B with total distance>1500m
- Compete in a biathlon competition
- Hike a part of the Appalachian trail
- Go to Rome
- Submerge at large part of my body in chocolate
- Downhill ski at 10 or more new ski resorts I've never skied at before
- Camp overnight at Tetons
- See half dome in Yosemite
- Hike in Olympic Mountains, WA
- Spend the night sleeping in sleeping bag outside with no shelter and star gaze
- Teach an anatomy course or similar course
- Own a second property.  Preferably a log cabin in the woods near skiing and mountains to go on the weekends.
- Ride my bike in Prince Edward Island.
- Knit a blanket (this means learning to knit).
- Hike in Bhutan's sacred valley
- Play ice hockey on a team for 1 season
- Play lacrosse on a team
- See pyramids
- Summit at least 14 of Colorado's mountains >14,000ft (I've done 3 so far)
- Use a camel as a real form of transport from one place to another
- Do a self supported cycling trip including camping for at least one night with out family

In creating this list, I wanted to make lists of the states I have been to so far and the ski resorts I have skied at so far.  I actually then made a cross country and a downhill list, but the downhill one is the one that relates:

Ski resorts (21) - downhill skiing
- Mt. Cain and Mt Washington, Vancouver Island (BC)
- Whistler/Blackcomb
-Apex, Silver Star, Baldy, Big White, WhiteWater, Kimberly, Shames (BC interior/north)
- Lake Louise (Alberta)
- Breck, Keystone, Vail, Beaver Creek, Telluride, A. Basin, Eldora (CO)
- Wintergreen (VA)
- Heavenly, Squaw Valley (CA)

I think it's interesting that I have so many travel goals and almost no 'personal' goals, no family goals, and no career goals.  Maybe that's just where I am today... or maybe some of those other things are harder to voice.  So I also added 3 things:

- be a kick-butt mother
- be a loving, fun and supportive wife
- be a great physical therapists that does my best for each patient.

We will keep you posted on how we do.  Right now we are tackling the US States goal!
